About Bluebell Kilts
Where heritage is stitched by hand, and every pleat tells a story.
Bluebell Kilts creates handcrafted kilts that honour tradition, fit beautifully, and are made to last a lifetime. Founded in Canada and rooted in Scottish craftsmanship, each kilt is cut, pleated, and sewn by hand using time-honoured techniques passed down through generations. There are no shortcuts here—just wool, skill, patience, and purpose.
The name “Bluebell” carries a quiet weight. It reflects both the Scottish bluebell—a wildflower that grows softly along hillsides and memorials—and the military call sign used by the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RCEME), the corps responsible for precision textile work in the Canadian and British Commonwealth Armed Forces (REME). Together, they symbolize resilience, remembrance, and refined craft—values that live in every stitch.
From family tartans and clan connections to milestone events and personal pride, Bluebell Kilts offers more than a custom garment. Each kilt is a story made wearable—tailored by hand, made for you, and never mass-produced.
Meet Roger, your kilt maker
A Canadian kiltmaker with Scottish roots and a soldier’s dedication.
Roger Cairns was born in Canada to Scottish immigrant parents, raised in a home where Highland tradition met Canadian life. He grew up balancing both worlds—playing hockey and the pipes, speaking with humility but living with deep cultural pride.
In 1995, Roger joined the Canadian Armed Forces and went on to build a distinguished career, eventually joining the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RCEME) after graduating from the Royal Military College in 1999. His years in service, both in Canada and abroad, sharpened his discipline and attention to detail—qualities that would later shape his approach to craft.
After retiring from the military in 2021, Roger returned to Scotland—not just to visit, but to reconnect with his roots in a meaningful way. There, in Edinburgh, he studied under a traditional kilt tailor and began the journey of mastering the precise, meticulous art of kiltmaking. What started as a passion project soon became a calling.
Bluebell Kilts is, in many ways, an homage: to his parents, for passing down their heritage; to his military family, for instilling care in every detail; and to the enduring legacy of Scottish craftsmanship.
