Each kilt is handcrafted with care and attention to detail. Turnaround time typically ranges from 6 to 10 weeks, depending on fabric availability and workload. You’ll be kept informed throughout the process.
-
Precise measurements are essential. I’ll guide you through what’s needed, including waist, hip (seat), kilt length, and rise. In-person fittings are preferred and can be arranged locally, or they can be conducted via video consultation (a second person is recommended for precise measuring).
-
Absolutely. You can visit House of Edgar or Locharran to select from hundreds of clan, district, or commemorative tartans. If you need help finding your tartan, I’m happy to assist.
-
Yes. If the cloth meets the necessary length, weight, and weave standards, I can create your kilt from it. A reduced rate applies for “bring your own tartan” commissions.
-
Pleating to the sett keeps the tartan pattern continuous across the back, while pleating to the stripe emphasizes a specific line or colour in the design. I’ll show you visual options before construction so you can choose what suits you best.

A well-made kilt is a lifetime garment and should grow and shrink with you. Every Bluebell kilt is made with enough excess material to allow for flexibility in how it’s worn. However, changes of more than a few inches will require alterations.
I offer alterations ranging from strap and buckle adjustments to a full apron reshaping. We can also completely remake your kilt using the original fabric. Your available options are dependent on how the original kilt maker constructed your kilt. A consultation will be required to determine the best course of action for your garment.
-
Following the consultation, you will receive a quote for the total cost of the kilt. A 50% non-refundable deposit is required before your tartan (kilt fabric) is ordered. Cash, checks, Interact e-transfers, and most major credit cards are accepted.
At your final fitting, and when you are satisfied with the fit of your kilt, payment for the remaining balance is due before taking your garment home.

Unfortunately, I do not currently ship outside of Canada.
